State police are investigating a crash that killed a Coburn woman at about 3:05 p.m. Monday on Paradise Road in Penn Township. The victim was identified by police as Evelyn Stimer, 61.
According to the police report, the crash occurred when a 2002 Ford Windstar driven by Stimer left the road and struck a parked camper trailer near the intersection of township Route 501. The investigation is continuing.
Seat belt check yields 12 citations
Patton Township police cited 12 people Monday during a safety checkpoint on Valley Vista Drive targeting seat belt usage.
Police say they made contact with 938 drivers between 3:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m., handing out literature and ensuring seat belts were being used. State College and Ferguson Township police assisted.
Man reports he was punched
A man reported to State College police that he was punched in the face by three white men on the 100 block of Locust Lane early Saturday morning after confronting the men about comments they had made to his girlfriend.
Police are investigating the incident, which happened about 1:20 a.m.. The man was treated at Mount Nittany Medical Center for his injuries.
Man says he was struck with beer can
A man reported to State College police that he was struck in the head with a full can of beer inside a fraternity at 508 Locust Lane.
The incident happened sometime overnight between Saturday and Sunday, police said. The man who threw the bottle was allegedly wearing a Phillies hat with a chin strap, police said.
Troopers in county get promotions
Two veteran state police troopers in Centre County were promoted this month to corporals and another was promoted from corporal to sergeant.
Kent D. Bernier, of Bellefonte, who worked at Rock-view and has been with state police since 1994, was promoted and moved to the Newport barracks.
Robert F. Thomas, of Morrisdale, Clearfield County, was transferred from the Philipsburg barracks to the Emporium barracks. He has also been with state police since 1994.
In total, 50 members were promoted to the rank of corporal.
Robert G. Mann, of Philipsburg, was among 17 promoted from corporal to sergeant. He worked at the Philipsburg barracks and will be moved to the Lancaster barracks. He has worked for state police since 1990.
College Night set for Thursday
Students in eighth through 12th grades and their families will have the chance to meet with higher education representatives at the fourth annual Central Region College Night from 6 to 8:30 Thursday.
The event will feature representatives from universities, colleges, technical schools, business schools, the Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency, and SAT and ACT prep companies. The event’s open to all students and their families.
A panel discussion, titled on selecting the right college, will take place from 6 to 7 p.m. Afterward, students and families can discuss specific programs with the representative agencies.
The event will take place at Mount Nittany Middle School, 656 Brandywine Drive, College Township.
