closeThe driver of a truck loaded with grain lost control on state Route 445, also known as the Millheim Narrows, Wednesday evening, causing a crash that has closed the road for more than a day.
The road was expected to open between midnight and midday Friday.
Penn DOT spokeswoman Marla Fannin said a utility pole was dislodged during the crash and the pole can’t be put back in the same location.
It took time for Allegheny Power to put it up in a new location, she said.
The crash occurred sometime Wednesday night, when the tractor- trailer, driven by Stephen R. Greib, 65, of Howard, rolled over the guardrails, struck a utility pole and rolled into Elk Creek, spilling its load into the creek. Greib wasn’t injured, and was back at work Thursday, state police said.
A detour is in place that directs drivers to state routes 192, 144, and 45, Fannin said.
Principal Carolyn Payne said Miles Township Elementary School lost power around 11 a.m. on Thursday, presumably as a result of the crash damage. Students took an early lunch, which had already been prepared before power was lost. Classes remained in session as normal for the rest of the day.
