closeThe Growing in Faith Daycare center has joined a growing list of Centre County child care providers that have attained the highest possible rating from the state’s recognition system.
Last year, five child care centers were accredited with four-star status. This year, the number almost doubled to nine.
They included Growing in Faith, which over the past 18 months has worked hard toward the accreditation, said Director Christine Ebeling.
“Our staff and administration does have to invest a lot of time in improving our quality of care,” she said. “I’m really proud of our staff for doing that. It’s definitely a big accomplishment.”
Growing in Faith joins the Bellefonte Family YMCA Daycare; Bellefonte Family YMCA at Bellefonte Elementary School; Bellefonte YMCA at Pleasant Gap Elementary School; Laurie A. Judy Child Care in Centre Hall; Montessori School of the Nittany Valley; and, at Penn State, the Bennett Family Center, Child Development Laboratory and Daybridge Child Development Center as earning four Keystone Stars.
Keystone STARS (standards, training/professional development, assistance, resources and support) is a performance standards program within Pennsylvania that promotes continuing education as well as the use of best-management practices. The designations, one through four stars, are also tied to grant funding.
Growing in Faith will be recognized for the achievement during an open house at 6 p.m., Oct. 8.
Now the center’s staff will have to work each year to keep the rating, Ebeling said.
“And we will continue to do that by continuing to maintain and grow in those areas,” she said.
