An Aaronsburg woman was taken to Mount Nittany Medical Center, then flown by LifeFlight to Hershey Medical Center after her car struck a deer on state Route 45, near Kline Road in Gregg Township early Friday.
Melissa Alterio, 22, was not wearing a seat belt when her westbound car struck a deer in the middle of Route 45 about 12:45 a.m., according to state police at Rockview. Her 2005 Chevrolet Cobalt went off the right side of the road, struck an embankment and rolled numerous times, police said. Alterio was found lying along the eastbound lane of the road. Her car came to a stop on its roof in the westbound lane.
Further information on her condition was not available. State police were assisted at the scene by the Gregg Township and Millheim fire companies.
Halfmoon concession stand broken into again
State police at Rockview are investigating a burglary and theft from a concession stand at the Halfmoon Little League Association field on Municipal Lane in Halfmoon Township.
Sometime Wednesday or Thursday, police said, someone broke in and stole candy, snacks and two rolls of coins.
It’s the second time this week the concession stand has been broken into, police said. The first time was Tuesday.
Tyrone teen reports attempted abduction
A 13-year-old girl reported to Tyrone police that a man in a red pickup truck tried to abduct her as she was walking to school Thursday, Tyrone police said.
The girl told police that the man stopped his truck as she was walking in the 500 to 600 block of Washington Avenue in Tyrone and told her that he knew her name and knew who she is. He then stepped from the truck and the girl ran home.
The incident, police said, is similar to others in past years. The suspect has short, gray hair, wearing blue jeans and boots. Anyone with information is asked to call the Tyrone police at 684-1364. Police are advising that children be given a ride to school or that they walk in groups. If a red truck and man fitting the description is seen, call 911, police said.
$1,500 in cash stolen from Imperial Motor Inn
About $1,500 in cash was reported stolen from a room at the Imperial Motor Inn between Wednesday and Thursday, State College police report.
Large TV, four photos taken from fraternity
A large, floor-model television and four photographs were stolen recently from the Phi Kappa Theta fraternity at 338 E. Fairmount Ave., State College police said. Police said there was no sign of forced entry.
Greek Sing slated for 2 p.m. Sunday
Penn State Panhellenic’s Greek Sing starts at 2 p.m. Sunday in Eisenhower Auditorium on campus. Organizations will perform songs and dances from popular musicals. Tickets cost $9 and are available at Eisenhower. The event benefits the Gayle Beyers Scholarship Fund.
PSU-MSU blood donor contest begins Monday
The 16th annual Penn State- Michigan State blood donor challenge starts Monday, in time to help the American Red Cross build up blood supplies before the holiday season.
The drive, “Touchdown PSU … Go for the Extra Pint!” continues until Nov. 19. The drive includes the Alpha Epsilon Delta Blood Cup, a competition among Penn State organizations.
Penn State won last year with 2,199 pints of blood compared to Michigan State’s 1,865 pints. This year’s winner will be announced before the Nov. 21 football game between the two.
The Red Cross encourages donors to make an appointment online at www.psuredcross.org. Donors need to be 17 and older and weigh at least 110 pounds. With parental consent, 16-yearolds can also donate.
