Omega sees increase in net income
Net income for Omega Financial Corp. rose by 7.3 percent to $4.705 million, or 37 cents per diluted share, in the fourth quarter of 2007, the company reported.
Thats up from $4.386 million, or 35 cents per diluted share, during the same period in 2006.
Net income for calendar year 2007, was just shy of $21.1 million, representing a 3.3 percent increase over 2006 earnings.
The results reflected the corporations ongoing efforts to manage the net interest margin, growing service revenues and wealth management income and controlling non-interest expenses.
In the fourth quarter of 2007, Omega signed a merger agreement with F.N.B. Corp. whereby F.N.B. will acquire Omega. Hawbaker receives trade awards
Glenn O. Hawbaker Inc., a State College-based paving contractor, has received three awards from the National Asphalt Paving Association and the Pennsylvania Asphalt Pavers Association.
The awards each recognize the company for exemplary performance in the design and construction of road surfaces using hot-mix asphalt.
WTAJ opens bureau in Johnstown
WTAJ-TV has opened a Johnstown office at 907 Old Scalp Ave.
This office, part of a long-term plan to bring additional news coverage to the Johnstown metro area, will be used for both news coverage and advertising sales. Two employees will work from the location.
Technical plans are in the works to make live news coverage opportunities available.
Sean Dreher has been hired to head news coverage from the Johnstown Bureau. He was recently hired by WTAJ after his position was eliminated at WWCP Fox 8.

Tax service opens in Philipsburg
Central PA Tax Doctors has opened an office at 12 W. Pine St. in Philipsburg.
The office provides tax preparation services by Sandy Rebo, Laura Richner, Lynn Moore and Kim Kechisen.
The office is open 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Saturdays.

Atherton Hotel goes smoke-free
The Atherton Hotel, a Patt Organization lodging property and full-service hotel in State College, converted all of the hotels 150 guest rooms to non-smoking rooms in December and converted all public areas to non-smoking by the end of January.
Tarragon Restaurant and the hotels meeting spaces have been smoke free for several years. Rumors Lounge was designated non-smoking at the end of January.
Smoking will be permitted in a designated outdoor area.
