closeAgriculture is among Pennsylvania’s leading industries. As winter gives way to spring, farmers markets sprout state-wide, offering consumers a chance to purchase locally grown fruits and vegetables.
The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture’s Farmers Market Nutrition Program aims to provide fresh, unprepared fruits and vegetables for those at risk of malnutrition and to expand awareness and use of farmers markets. Four $5 vouchers are available each season for WIC recipients and seniors 60 and older who meet gross-income limits as part of the program: $19,240 for individuals and $25,900 for couples.
Vouchers can be redeemed at select farmers markets and farm stands across the state between June 1 and Nov. 30. For more information about the program, contact the Centre County Office of Aging at 355-6716 or visit www.agriculture.state.pa.us.
