Age has its privileges in Centre County. People who are 60 or older qualify for a variety of programs offered through the Centre County Office of Aging and its six senior centers.
The local centers offer everything from line dancing and billiards to more traditional fare such as cards and crafts.
The county also offers a Telephone Touch Reassurance Program, a daily safety check in which emergency procedures go into effect if a person does not answer a call.
LEGAL SERVICES
These services help to obtain legal advice on the clients affairs for managing long-term care. Issues could include representative payee, power of attorney, trusts, life estate, guardianship and wills. RETIRED AND SENIOR VOLUNTEER PROGRAM
RSVP of Centre County helps individuals age 55 and older put their skills and life experiences to use through volunteering in the community. The staff assists each person in choosing the right opportunity based on the volunteers interests, abilities and schedule. RSVP receives requests for volunteer help from more than 100 community agencies and organizations. The RSVP office, 245 Willowbank Building, 420 Holmes St., Bellefonte, is open from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Call 355-6816 for information.
SENIOR CENTER AND HEALTH INFORMATION
Services for those age 60 and older include group meals, socialization, recreation and education programs tailored to the participants interests. Wellness is promoted through PrimeTime Health.
