Street theater

Published: September 1, 2010

On the way to work the other morning, I witnessed a bit of street theater.

Waiting to turn from Clearview Avenue onto Waddle Road, I watched the young driver across the intersection suddenly jump out of his car, dash to the car behind him and lift both windshield wipers so that they pointed skyward. He ran back, laughing just like his victim, who had to get out to lower her blades just as the light changed and the prankster sped away.

Was it a longstanding joke between friends? Was it good-natured revenge? Spur-of-the-moment craziness? I'll never know, but it brightened the usual commute.
