'In the Heights' opens tour at Eisenhower Oct. 18

In the Heights is one of the best musicals I've seen in years, and it opens its non-Equity tour at Eisenhower Auditorium at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 18, with Penn State theater alumnus Jeffrey Nuñez in the cast.

The show, which earned a Tony Award for best musical in 2008, is set in Washington Heights, the Latino neighborhood in northern Manhattan. In the Heights, like other stories that tug at our emotions, concerns home, family and finding a place in the world.

Tickets are still available for the Center for the Performing Arts presentation.

Check out my interview with Lin-Manuel Miranda, the immensely talented creator of In the Heights. Miranda won a Tony for writing the show's music and lyrics. He also starred in the musical's original Broadway cast.

Read my features about Miranda and In the Heights.

My colleague Jennifer Pencek wrote an article about Nuñez, who performs in the show's ensemble and understudies several lead roles.
