Resources exist for victims

The Central Pennsylvania Psychological Association shares the public’s care and concern for the victims of the recent alleged child abuse disclosures.

We would also like to reassure children and families that the majority of children who have experienced abuse do not become abusers themselves. Victims of abuse can be helped through their experiences by psychologists and other licensed mental health professionals trained in this area.

Communities, organizations and schools can successfully review how they can protect their members by teaching advocacy and assertiveness skills of the individual, whether it is a child or adult; supporting the development of healthy and nurturing relationships; and by educating about appropriate boundaries and how to use them in daily living. More information can be found at www.apa.org,www.stopitnow.org and www.childwelfare.org. For more information about local psychology resources, contact CPPA at centralpapsychassoc@gmail.com.
