UNIVERSITY PARK — The man trustees appointed Penn State’s acting president Nov. 9 after they announced that Graham Spanier had been removed from the job no longer has the word “acting” in his title.

On Thursday, university spokesman Bill Mahon confirmed that Rod Erickson is the university’s new president, and there are no plans to conduct any search to fill the job.

While Erickson was named the acting president initially, Mahon said trustees soon agreed to change that to president — prior Nov. 11 trustees meeting, at

which board Chairman Steve Garban introduced him as president and pledged the trustees’ support for him.

Erickson said he did not accept “this appointment as your president to be a caretaker.”

Since Nov. 11, Erickson has been meeting with faculty, student leaders, classes and others in the community, Mahon said.

The university has also filled other vacancies stemming from the Jerry Sandusky sex abuse scandal. Rob Pangborn, vice president and dean for undergraduate education, was named acting executive vice president and provost, the job formerly held by Erickson.

David Joyner has taken over the job of acting athletic director, a vacancy created by the departure of Tim Cur-ley, who is on leave and faces a perjury charge for testimony he gave in the Sandusky case. Joyner, an orthopedic physician and health care consultant, stepped down from his position as a university trustee.
