Four people were taken to Mount Nittany Medical Center for treatment following a three-vehicle crash just after 5 p.m. Monday at the parking lot entrance to Nittany Mall.
State College police said Jessica Cave, 25, of Bellefonte, was driving toward the exit to East College Avenue when she rear-ended a vehicle driven by Sherri Wingard, 41, of Aaronsburg. Wingards vehicle then hit that of Philip Cain, 61, of Centre Hall, who was stopped and waiting to turn onto East College Avenue.
Police said Cave told them she turned to give her son french fries and her foot slipped off the brake. She told police she took one Xanax prior to the crash and police said her pupils were dilated and eyes bloodshot, and that she was lethargic with slow speech. Police requested a blood test.
Cave and her two passengers, Matthew Ross, 26, and Naiym Francis, 5, both of Bellefonte, and Wingard were transported to the hospital. Cave and her passengers complained of head and neck injuries and Wingard of a severe headache, police said.
