Randall Brooks has been charged for the third time for attempting to intimidate a witness in his trial for attempted homicide.
Brooks, 38, of Mill Hall, was arraigned Wednesday before Magisterial District Judge Daniel Hoffman in Bellefonte for allegedly attempting to intimidate a female witness, according to a statement from state police. After Hoffman set a $100,000 straight bail, Brooks was brought back to county jail, where has been held since October 2010, after he was accused of trying to kill his ex-girlfriends new love interest in a drive-by shooting in December 2009.
After his initial arrest, Brooks was charged in December 2010, with two additional felony counts of intimidation of a witness after he allegedly tried to bribe his former girlfriend with money, police said at the time. Harassment and stalking charges were filed against Brooks in March 2011 after he called and sent text messages to the same woman despite a court order banning him from doing so, police said.
In July, he was charged with aggravated jury tampering and tampering with evidence. Police said he devised a plot with a fellow inmate to try to contact and influence a juror selected for that trial. The inmate, however, informed police of the plot.
Brooks preliminary hearing on the new charge is scheduled for Jan. 4, police said, and his trial should occur early next year.
