HOUSTON — State College girls’ cross country coach Rebecca Donaghue had a successful marathon debut.
Donaghue finished 17th out of 152 elite women’s runners during Saturday’s Olympic marathon trials. She completed the 26.2-mile course in 2:35:47.
Donaghue, 35, finished 10:19 behind winner Shalane Flanagan. Donaghue qualified for the Olympic trials based on her 10k time and she prepared for the race by winning last month’s Nittany Valley Half Marathon.
State College resident Luke Watson finished 65th out of 85 athletes in Saturday’s men’s trials. Watson, 31, completed the course in 2:21:58. He finished 12:50 behind winner Meb Keflezighi.
