The controversial, anti-gay Westboro Baptist Church of Kansas, known for picketing military funerals, is planning to protest Joe Paternos funeral and a public memorial service this week, according to the churchs website and the Twitter account of at least one member.
A Sunday press release states the group will picket his funeral in religious protest. The funeral is set for 2 p.m. Wednesday. Tweets from church member Margie Phelps say the group also will picket the public memorial service set for 2 p.m. Thursday at the Bryce Jordan Center.
The group demonstrated outside Beaver Stadium before the Nov. 12 football game between Penn State and Nebraska, in response to the allegations that former coach Jerry Sandusky sexually abused eight boys over 15 years.
The press release about picketing the Paterno funeral calls him an enabler in the Sandusky case.
