A Pine Grove Mills woman waived her preliminary hearing Wednesday on charges that she stole more than $13,000 from an 85-year-old State College woman in her care.
Kelly Potts, 34, could now face trial on 30 counts, including 20 felony charges, for thefts from the womans home on East Marylyn Avenue, where she worked as an independent caregiver.
Police said Potts forged five checks between June and September and cashed them without permission, used the womans credit card to go grocery shopping and took a laptop computer from the womans home.
The theft was reported by the womans daughter, who lives in Massachusetts.
Police said Potts admitted to stealing four of the five checks, and forging and cashing all five. They said she was cooperative and provided recorded statements, according to a criminal complaint.
Potts is charged with five felony counts each of forgery, theft by unlawful taking, theft by deception, and receiving stolen property. She also faces three misdemeanor charges of theft by unlawful taking and receiving stolen property and two misdemeanor charges of theft by deception and accessing a device issued to another person.
