One day after trying to sell a video of the Joe Paterno memorial service in the Bryce Jordan Center, WTAJ-10 discontinued the offer Friday.
On Thursday, the station advertised copies of
“A Memorial for Joe,” with a portion of the proc eeds going towar d
charity.
But on Friday, a statement on the station’s website announced it would “be unable to offer copies of the memorial service due to copyright restrictions.”
“We apologize for any confusion this might have created, and any requests or payments that have been sent to us will be returned in full,” the statement said.
Scott Paterno, the son of Joe Paterno, said on Twitter on Thursday that his family had neither authorized video sales nor discussed the matter with the station before it made its offer. On Friday, WTAJ’s statement said the station was talking to the Paterno family.
WPSU, Penn State’s public television station, and the Big Ten Network both re-broadcast the service Thursday night, but who owns the copyright to any video footage could not be confirmed Friday.
WPSU management could not be reached late Friday afternoon.
