The painted plywood disks that sat in place of the clocks in the Old Main bell tower for the past six months were replaced over the weekend with the restored clock faces, along with a new bell-ringing system.
The project, which was supposed to be completed in October but was delayed, replaced the broken glass and hands on the clock faces and reused the original cast iron frames. The faces now have the ability to be illuminated with more than 100 color shades.
The sound system has been set up to play a wide range of sounds, including the roar of the Nittany Lion, Penn State’s alma mater, “Fight on State” and “The Nittany Lion,” in addition to a digital recording of the original bell that now sits on display beside Old Main.
