Former BEA grad shines as freshman at Pitt-Greensburg

Butterworth

Freshman Brittany Butterworth, a Bald Eagle Area graduate, leads the Pitt-Greensburg women’s basketball team in two categories.

Butterworth has 78

assists and 33 steals, both team-high

marks. She is also second in rebounding with

76. Butterworth, who has started in all 22 games, averages 3.0 points per game. Pitt- Greensburg is 9-13.

Wrestling

Mitchell Port (Bellefonte, Edinboro)is 23-6 and is ranked between 13 and 20 in four rankings. Edinboro 8-2 and ranked 10th in the country.

Steve Bosak (State College, Cornell)is 24-3. He dropped a 2-1 decision to Ben Clymer of Hofstra over the weekend. Cornell, 10-0, won its 10th straight Ivy League title when it defeated Columbia 30-9.

Basketball

Tyann McDaniel (Bellefonte, Misericordia) has 40 rebounds, 62 assists, 11 steals and an 11.3 points per game average. Misericordia is 10-8.

Emily Suhey (State College, Villanova) scored three points in four minutes of action in a 62-53 win over Seton Hall. Villanova is 15-8.

Korey McCaffrey (Penns Valley, Susquehanna) has 78 rebounds, 48 assists, 25 blocked shots, 28 steals and a 9.6 scoring average. Susquehanna is 4-18.

Brittany LeVan (Penns Valley, Kutztown) has 36 rebounds, eight assists, four steals and a 1.8 scoring average. Kutztown is 6-16.

Brian Scholly (State College, Juniata)averages 9.2 points, 4.7 rebounds, 1.4 assists, 0.6 steals and 0.2 blocked shots. Juniata is 15-7.

Kate McDonald (State College, Juniata)is averaging 12.7 points, 9.5 rebounds, 3.1 assists, 3.0 steals and 0.9 blocks. Juniata is 21-1.

Liz Wortman (Bellefonte, Juniata)averages 2.4 minutes and 0.3 rebounds per game.

Jena Matter (Bellefonte, Mansfield)has 106 rebounds, 27 assists, 16 steals, four blocked shots and averages 9.2 points per game. Mansfield is 7-12.

Mitch Moyer (BEA, PSU-Altoona)has 26 rebounds, six assists, one block, eight steals and a 4.3 scoring average. Altoona is 1-19.

Alidia Strouse (State College, PSU-Altoona) has 82 rebounds, 15 assists, three blocks, 22 steals and a 5.0 scoring average. Altoona is 6-14.

Cory Boone (BEA, Alvernia)had seven points, five rebounds, an assist, three blocks and a steal in a 63-61 win over Lebanon Valley. Alvernia raised its record to 15-6.

Pat St. Andrews (State College, PSUBehrend) has a 5.4 scoring average. He also averages 2.2 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 0.6 steals. Behrend is 11-10.

Swimming

Jenny Ryan (State College, Grove City) won the 500 freestyle in 5:19.92 and the 1,000 freestyle in 10:50.43 in a 159-128 win over Westminster. She also swam on the winning 400 freestyle relay team that had a time of 3:39.69. Grove City is 10-6.

Anne Lawrence (State College, PSU-Behrend) was named the AMCC Athlete of the Week after winning the 200 butterfly in 2:22.10 and placing second in the 100 butterfly in 1:03.64 in a meet against Washington & Jefferson.

Joe Woodman (State College, St. Vincent’s) placed third in the 200 freestyle (1:52.19), the 200 IM (2:09.68) and second in the 200 backstroke

(2:09.67) in a meet against Fairmont, which St. Vincent’s lost, 145-100.

Indoor track

Christie Johnson (State College, Army)placed third in the 60 hurdles in 9.26, fourth in the high jump with a jump of 1.65 meters and fifth in the pole vault with a jump of 2.25 meters in the meet against Navy.

Chloe Schmidt (State College, Illinois)ran on the winning 4x400 relay which had a time of 3:48.90 and was fifth in the 600 meters in 1:34.96 in the Orange and Blue Open recently.
