The winter Trash to Treasure sale on Saturday raised more than $4,000 for the Centre County United Way.

An offshoot of the larger Trash to Treasure sale held in the spring, the winter sale is a Student United Way project that follows the same basic idea.

Students leaving the area in December had the opportunity to donate unwanted items to the sale.

All proceeds from the winter sale benefit the 40 Centre County United Way partner agencies.

Last spring, the larger sale raised more than $48,000.
