Missed opportunities

Like many residents concerned with educating our children and our workforce, we waited with dread for Gov. Tom Corbett’s budget to appear. This year, his decisions were even worse than expected.

He would rather fully fund the Department of Corrections than make sure the commonwealth’s residents are properly educated. He would rather drag his feet on supporting the revenue-producing impact fee on drilling and production of natural gas from shale than reduce the increasing debt load on students, families and local governments.

If he intends to form a panel to study how to best finance higher education, let’s hope the panel’s composition is more balanced than his Marcellus committee. A leader from the Chamber of Commerce has been selected as the panel’s chairman.

Personally, we cannot wait until this governor, with his misguided priorities, leaves office. Recall anyone?
