In a pre-game ceremony honoring seniors at Alvernia College, coach Mike Miller called Cory Boone the finest defensive player hes ever coached. Then Boone, a Bald Eagle Area graduate, proceeded to repay his coach with five blocks, including a key one in the closing minutes to help Alvernia overtake Elizabethtown 70-67. Trailing by nine points with 3:15 left in the game, Alvernia rallied as Boone blocked a shot that led to a lay-up that pulled his team within two points.
Boone also pulled down 10 rebounds in the win, which boosted Alvernia to a tie for third place in the Commonwealth Conference with a 16-7 record.
For the season, Boone has 149 rebounds, 45 blocked shots, 22 assists, 16 steals and a 10.5 scoring average.
WRESTLING
Steve Bosak (State College, Cornell) went 2-0 on the second day of the National Duals. The day includedc a 4-0 win over Illinois Tony Dallago in the regional final. Cornell fell to the Fighting Illini 19-16. Bosak is 24-3 for the season.
Kurt McCamley (Philipsburg-Osceola, Seton Hill) lost to Logan Shire of Pitt-Johnstown 5-0 at 165 pounds. UPJ won the meet 31-9.
BASKETBALL
Tyann McDaniel (Bellefonte, Misericordia) has 40 rebounds, 62 assists, 11 steals and an 11.3 scoring average. Misericordia is 10-8.
Emily Suhey (State College, Villanova) scored two points in 11 minutes in a 54-39 loss to South Florida and had two points in five minutes of a 79-73 loss to DePaul.
Korey McCaffrey (Penns Valley, Susquehanna) has 88 rebounds, 60 assists, 26 blocks and 30 steals to go with a 9.7 scoring average. Susquehanna is 5-19.
Brittany LeVan (Penns Valley, Kutztown) has 37 rebounds, nine assists, four seals and a 1.7 scoring average. Kutztown is 6-18.
Brian Scholly (State College, Juniata) averages 9.3 points, 4.6 rebounds, 1.5 assists, 0.6 steals and two blocks for Juniata, which is 17-7.
Kate McDonald (State College, Juniata) averages 12.4 points and 9.3 rebounds. She also averages 3.1 assists, 2.9 steals and .9 blocks for Juniata, which is 23-1.
Liz Wortman (Bellefonte, Juniata) averages 0.2 points and 0.3 rebounds per game.

Christie Johnson (State College, Army) won the high jump with a 1.6-meter effort in the Lafayette-Rider Winter Games.
Chloe Schmidt (State College, Illinois) finished second in the 800-meter run at the Tyson Invitational at the University of Arkansas. Schmidts time of 2:12.87 is a personal best.

Ricky Dove (State College, Bloomsburg) is 0-2 to begin the season, losing at No. 1 singles and doubles match against Penn State. Bloomsburg is 0-1.
Alexa Gregory (State College, Connecticut) is 0-2 to begin the season, losing at No. 1 singles and doubles against Army. Connecticut is 0-1.
Nick Martin (State College, Coast Guard Academy) is a captain for the Bears and opened the season with a doubles win against Holy Cross. Coast Guard is 1-0.
Christopher Borden (State College, George Mason) is 3-2 for the Patriots after going 2-0 in singles and 1-2 in doubles last weekend. George Mason is 3-0.
