David Gordeuk of Port Matilda Accepts Fully Qualified Appointment to the United States Naval Academy

Washington, D.C. — U.S. Representative Glenn ‘GT’ Thompson today proudly announced the Fully Qualified Appointment of State College Area High School senior, David Gordeuk of Port Matilda, to the U.S. Naval Academy.  David, the son of Mrs. Diane Gordeuk and the late Dr. Daniel Gordeuk, will join the Academy as a member of the Class of 2016.  In addition to the appointment, David has been invited to join the Academy’s Navy Midshipmen Division 1 football team.

“David has shown himself to be a hardworking and dedicated individual, and a proven leader committed to excel in both academics and athletics,” said Representative Thompson. “I am proud to have recommended him to the Naval Academy, and wish him the very best in this exciting endeavor.”

At State College Area High School, David excelled in advanced placement courses receiving a grade point average of 3.9 and ranking in the top 30 percent of his class.  In addition to academics, David excelled in athletics earning varsity letters as a member of the State College Area Football, Indoor Track, and the Spring Track teams. 

David’s background goes beyond the classroom and playing field and into extra-curricular activities. He is also a member of the German Club, having been elected Treasurer in the 9th grade, and volunteers his time with the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church Children’s Ministries and Church Youth Group. In addition to his academic, athletic, and extra-curricular achievements, David still found time to work on his family’s farm. 

“The Academy has chosen David based on a stellar record of academic achievement and a level of character that has allowed him to succeed in the classroom and on the field,” Representative Thompson added. “He’s a well-rounded individual and should be proud of this tremendous accomplishment.”

David’s maternal grandparents are the late Nelson and E. Jean Fisher of Julian, Pa., and paternal grandparents are the late Dr. Stephen and Jenny Gordeuk of State College, Pa.
