O'Brien eighth on Sporting News list

The Sporting News ranked Penn State’s Bill O’Brien as the eighth best head coach in the Big Ten in a story released Thursday

O’Brien, who has hired in January after five seasons with the New England Patriots has never been a head coach at any level.

The publication ranked Ohio State’s Urban Meyer No. 1 followed by Wisconsin’s Bret Bielema and Michigan State’s Mark Dantonio. Meyer, 47, won two national titles at Florida.

Indiana’s Kevin Wilson was ranked 12th.
