Little Lions’ Taylor Leath named to youth national squad

Published: June 2, 2012

State College’s Taylor Leath has been named to the roster for the U.S. Girls’ Youth National A2 Volleyball Program.

The junior outside hitter will compete at the USA Volleyball High Performance Championships in July. The athletes will attend a five-day USA Volleyball training camp beginning July 19 before the championships in Des Moines, Iowa.

After the training camp, the 33 players who have been invited to the camp will be divided into three teams of 11 for the tournament, with the teams facing other regional high performance teams, international teams and other USA Volleyball High Performance teams.

The team will be led by Wingate head coach Shelton Collie.

The 6-foot-2 Leath was second on the Lady Little Lions with 273 kills last season with a .312 hitting percentage, tied for the team lead with 179 digs and also posted 45 blocks in helping the Lady Little Lions to the PIAA quarterfinals.

Leath, an All-State selection last fall and a member of the Synergy club program in King of Prussia, is the only Pennsylvanian on the team and one of only three from the northeast selected.

Also on the list is Penn State oral commitment (according to prepvolleyball. com) Nia Reed of Fort Lee, N.J.
