Centre County has Mount Nittany Medical Center, an acute-care hospital, along with several other health care providers.

The 260-bed facility offers neurosurgical services, cancer treatment and cardiac catheterization capable of evaluating and treating coronary arteries, muscles and valves.

For tertiary care, such as advanced brain or heart surgeries, patients may go to the 501-bed Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center in Hershey, 404-bed Geisinger Medical Center in Danville or 497-bed Altoona Hospital.

If rehabilitation is needed, HealthSouth’s 73-bed Nittany Valley Rehabilitation Hospital in Pleasant Gap offers inpatient and outpatient services, including therapy for strokes, brain injuries and orthopedic and neuromuscular disorders.

The rehabilitation hospital also operates four outpatient clinics, in State College, Lock Haven, Lewistown and Mifflintown.

For subsidized reproductive health care and screening, Family Health Services runs clinics in Bellefonte, Huntingdon, Philipsburg and State College.

ALTOONA REGIONAL HEALTH SYSTEM

Facility type: nonprofit health care system created in 2004 when Altoona and Bon Secours-Holy Family hospitals and affiliated health care organizations merged. Bon Secours Health System formally withdrew as a corporate member of Altoona Regional effective March 8, 2011.

CENTRE/HUNTINGDON TAPESTRY OF HEALTH

Facility type: women’s and family health center. Many services are paid for by federal and state grants and are provided at little or no cost to patients. A subsidiary of the nonprofit Family Health Council of Central Pennsylvania.

Facility type: nonprofit clinic that provides free primary and preventive medical and dental to Centre County residents who have no other access to health care and whose household income is at or below 200% of the federal poverty level.

CLEARFIELD HOSPITAL

Facility type: private, nonprofit acute-care hospital that has been providing health care services since 1901.

Clearfield Hospital provides medical care in Philipsburg at Clear-Med Primary Care in the Peebles Plaza. The clinic is open Monday through Saturday morning, with evening hours on Tuesday and Thursday. Same-day appointments are available for minor injuries, illnesses and employment physicals. Lab services are provided.

Clearfield Hospital also offers imaging services, ultrasound and other types of outpatient testing, including electrocardiograms and Holter monitoring, at the Philipsburg clinic. In addition, Clearfield Hospital provides care at the Moshannon Valley Surgical Clinic, Moshannon Valley Orthopedics and Nittany Hospice, all in the Peebles Plaza.
