UNIVERSITY PARK — Vermont will be the opening-night opponent as Penn State begins its first season as a Division I varsity program.
The Nittany Lions announced their initial 33-game slate Thursday, including the opening weekend Oct. 6-7 when they visit the Catamounts.
They play their home-opening series the following weekend, Oct. 13-14, against Syracuse at the Greenburg Ice Pavilion.
Penn State will play in its old home for one more season before the new Pegula Ice Arena opens.
The home slate also includes consecutive weekend series in late October and early November against RIT, Sacred Heart and Robert Morris. Another home series against Division III Chatham awaits in early January. Penn State also will host Princeton for one game in late January and two-game series against Mercyhurst and Lindenwood in early February.
The latter two programs, along with RIT, Syracuse and Robert Morris join Penn State in College Hockey America.
The slate also includes a visit to NCAA Tournament qualifier St. Lawrence of the ECAC
The regular season concludes Feb. 22-23 at Robert Morris before the CHA Tournament begins March 1.
