Thursday afternoon when I parked on College Avenue, two State College police officers were ticketing cars. I thought this was odd, as this is usually the job of parking enforcement officers.
I put enough money in the meter to cover the time I needed. When I returned, there were tickets on the windshields of numerous cars on the street, including mine.
I was charged a $15 fine for parking too far away from the curb and, yes, I was guilty as charged. The limit is 12 inches. I measured the distance, and my back rear tire was 14 to 15 inches from the curb.
State College has every right to enforce the laws. However, this type of ticketing does not create an attractive atmosphere for those who want to shop and dine in the borough.
I am fortunate enough to live outside the borough, and after this incident, I will never favor the consolidation of the borough and the surrounding townships.
