Penn State football coach Bill O'Brien announced today that wide receiver Devon Smith has left the football program for personal reasons.
O'Brien listed Smith as a first-team wide receiver in a depth chart released earlier this month. Smith caught 25 passes for 402 yards last season. He was Penn State's second leading returning receiver.
Smith, a senior from White Plans. Md., was arrested by university police and charged with possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia in April. The charges stemmed from a March 14 incident at Nittany Apartments.
Smith waived his right to a preliminary hearing and applied for the Accelerated Rehabilitative Disposition program on May 30.
State College graduate Alex Kenney was listed behind Smith on the depth chart.
