Crash injures driver, closes I-99 on-ramp

Published: June 27, 2012

A fiery one-car crash Tuesday evening on an Interstate 99 on-ramp left the driver injured.

State police at Rockview said Thomas Novosel, 25, of Bellefonte, was traveling southbound at an unsafe speed at 7:20 p.m. when he took his eyes off the roadway. He lost control of the 2005 Subaru Outback and struck a barrier and spun counterclockwise on the Exit 78 ramp in Benner Township. His vehicle came to rest on the ramp, then caught fire and was fully engulfed.

The Bellefonte Undine and Logan fire companies responded. Novosel was transported to Mount Nittany Medical Center with what police described as moderate injuries, and was cited for careless driving. The vehicle was heavily damaged. The ramp was closed for about an hour.
