Centre County baseball league: Philipsburg’s bats sting Blanchard

— BLANCHARD — Philipsburg used the longball in two of its final three at-bats on Monday to cruise past Blanchard 12-1 in six innings in Centre County League baseball action.

The Pirates (16-2) put together a three-run top of the first against Bees starter Curtis Harpster, as Ryan Mostyn and Jeremy Potter led the way with RBI singles. Blanchard got one back in the home half of the inning when a Matt McGhee double plated Ryan Watkins.

Up 4-1 after three innings, Philipsburg pounded Harpster for five runs in the fourth behind a grand slam from John Shaffer. Matt Winters also added a home in the Pirates’ three-run sixth.

Matt Curtis, Shaffer, Winters and Potter all had multiple-hit games for Philipsburg as JD Mason picked up the win on the mound after working four innings. Watkins, Kyle Miller and James Gallagher led the Bees (8-11) with multiple hits, as Harpster suffered the loss.

Lewistown 21, Pleasant Gap 2 (5)

PLEASANT GAP — Chad Battista blasted two home runs and collected five RBIs as the Predators ran away from the Padres early.

Lewistown put six runs on the board in the first inning, as Ryan Keefer homered and Tanner Kibe and Sean Heckert delivered RBI doubles after three Pleasant Gap errors.

The Predators staked a 14-1 lead after four innings before tacking on seven in the fifth behind Jay Hartman’s threerun double and a two-run homer from Battista.

Jason Shawley and Zach Spangler had RBI hits and Matt Truesdale collected a pair of singles to lead Pleasant Gap (3-11).

Lemont 16, Mifflin County 1 (5)

LEMONT — Eight of Lemont’s nine batters had multiple hits as the Ducks pounded Mifflin Count in five innings.

Lemont (13-5) scored multiple runs in each of its four at-bats, including eight in the first inning. Ben Sallade’s three-run triple highlighted the frame. Johnny Martinez had a triple and an RBI single in the inning, while Kyle Wright added an RBI double.

The Ducks tacked on four more in the second inning. Gabe Menna and Brad Holzwarth had RBI singles, while Erik Kempton had an RBI double.

Menna paced a 17-hit attack with three singles. Martinez, Wright, Sean Deegan, Keiran Kempton, Sallade, Holzwarth and Erik Kempton had two hits each. Seth Whitehill tossed a sevenhitter, recording 11 of the 15 outs on strikeouts.

Vane Specht had two hits for Mifflin County.

Lewistown 8, Blanchard 7

LEWISTOWN — Andy Georgeson singled home the winning run in the bottom of the seventh as Lewistown defeated Blanchard on Sunday.

Ryan Watkins belted a two-run homer in the first inning and the Bees built a 6-3 lead through five innings. Lewistown rallied in the seventh. Chad Battista and Abner Druckenmiller each had two-run doubles as the Predators took a 7-6 lead.

Blanchard tied it with a run in the seventh, but Georgeson’s third single of the game won it in the bottom of the frame. Kevin Reigle and Tanner Kibe added two hits each for the Predators. Watkins had two hits for the Bees.

American Legion

Bellefonte 4, Mifflin County 1

MILROY — Tyler Sunday tossed a two-hitter to lead Bellefonte to a 4-1 victory over Mifflin County in American Legion baseball action on Monday.

Sunday did not walk a batter, struck out five and weathered three errors in the contest. He allowed just two singles.

With th score tied at 1-1, Bellefonte broke through in the fifth inning. Seth Weaver led off with a single and came around to score as Mifflin County committed two errors on a ball hit by Brandon Quay. Kevin Tate plated Quay with a RBI single.

Weaver, who doubled, and Tate had two hits each for Bellefonte (8-16).
