BLANCHARD — Ryan Watkins singled home the game-winning run as Blanchard outlasted Unionville 3-2 in nine innings for a Centre County Baseball League win Sunday afternoon.
Both teams notched nine hits but had trouble plating baserunners. Unionville’s Dan Cole collected three singles while Derek Jabco and Connor Fura each added doubles.
Kyle Miller doubled for Blanchard while Josh Bechdel added two singles. Blanchard improved to 9-12 with the win while Unionville (4-17) was mathematically eliminated from the playoffs, sitting in ninth place.
Philipsburg 3, Howard 2
PHILIPSBURG — The Pirates continued their winning ways with a victory over Howard.
Tyler Golden scatted six hits through seven innings and Ryan Mostyn hit two doubles to lead the first-place Pirates. J.D. Mason’s solo home run in the fourth inning proved to be the difference-maker as Howard would go on to add a run in the seventh to pull within one.
Dylan Womer doubled and Tyler Womer hit a home run for Howard (13-7).
Lewistown 5-13, Mifflin Co. 4-11
MILROY — The Lewistown Predators swept a doubleheader against Mifflin County on Sunday to stay in the hunt for the league’s second playoff seed.
Lewistown improved to 14-6 after edging the Stars in a low-scoring Game 1 and out-gunning them in an offense-filled Game 2.
The two teams dueled to a 4-4 tie before Chad Battista blasted a walk-off homer off Mifflin County starter Chris Tressler in the seventh inning.
While both teams combined for 15 hits in Game 1.
Game 2 featured more offense. Lewistown notched 13 hits while Mifflin County tallied 11, including two home runs. Kevin Reigle hit a solo shot in the top of the second to give Lewistown a 3-1 lead before Ryan Keefer’s grand slam capped a seven-run top of the fourth.
Nick Pupo added a two-run home run in the bottom of the fourth but Lewistown put together a three-run seventh to secure the win.
Spring Mills 14, Pleasant Gap 3 (6)
PLEASANT GAP — Spring Mills peppered Pleasant Gap pitching and the Braves coasted to their ninth win of the season.
The Braves raked 19 hits in just six innings to put even more space between themselves and Mifflin County, which sits in eighth place — the final playoff spot — in the league standings.
Six Spring Mills players collected multiple hits. Kevin Conklin led the Braves with two home runs. Conklin hit a two-run shot in the first to get the rout started and blasted a solo homer in the fourth to keep it going.
Steven Alterio took the loss for Pleasant Gap, but also doubled and collected two singles at the plate to lead his team. Tyler James knocked in Pleasant Gap’s runs with a three-run homer in the bottom of the third.
