Letter to the editor | Hypocrisy on display

Published: July 28, 2012

One need not look in a dictionary for a definition of hypocrisy.

Just read a quote from NCAA President Mark Emmert when he was chancellor of LSU:

“The critical role of our football program is clear. It is of vital importance to the entire community — our students, our fans and alumni worldwide and the state of Louisiana. Simply put, success in LSU football is essential for the success of Louisiana State University.”

Emmert claims no vindictiveness against the students, fans, community or alumni at Penn State. Emmert has mastered the art of deception. He knew that unsupportable NCAA sanctions against the football team would have resounding implications beyond punishing, rightfully and severely so, those directly involved.

If he did not he should be fired for stupidity as well as for lack of integrity. His quote, above, does not define the limits as to the “cost” he was willing to pay for LSU’s place in the sporting-world sun. Emmert reserved that definition for Penn State.
