Police target State College car thefts suspect

Published: August 9, 2012

A person has been identified in connection with multiple incidents of thefts of items from vehicles and the theft of a vehicle last week, State College Police said.

The individual was found rummaging through vehicles on the 500 block of Wilson Alley, police said. The person has not been charged, and the exact number of vehicles entered hasn’t been determined, but police said there are “multiple” incidents.

Cigars were reported stolen Tuesday from a vehicle parked at 255 E. Beaver Ave., adding to the increasing number of vehicles entered since last week, police said.

Two cars in the State College area had items stolen from them Monday, one resulting in a loss of almost $2,000, police said.

Items in a backpack stolen from the vehicle parked on Hartswick Avenue included a Sony laptop, a passport and a digital camera, police said.

The other car, parked in the Meridian 3 parking deck at 747 E. Beaver Ave., also had backpacks stolen, but police said no estimated loss was listed.

Four cars were illegally entered last Friday and Saturday, police said. One had a Droid cellphone taken from it, one had change taken and two were entered but nothing was stolen.

The person was also connected with the theft of a 2009 Honda CRV, taken from a driveway in the 200 block of Hillcrest Avenue. The incident was reported at 1:16 p.m. Saturday, and the vehicle’s owner said she last saw it around midnight. Police said she thought she may have left the keys in the vehicle and left it unlocked.

Police said the matter is still under investigation.
