Letter to the editor | Injustice has a new name

I have added a new four-letter word to my vocabulary: NCAA.

I clipped it and pasted it in my dictionary. It came down to placing it next to “overkill” or next to “injustice.” I settled on injustice.

If justice means that one reaps what one sows, then thousands of faultless people have reaped a whirlwind not of their own making and thus have become an entirely new class of victims at the hands of the NCAA.

Don’t we have enough victims already in all of those abused children? Punishing the guilty isn’t enough? We have to persecute more?

I suggest we all proudly proclaim our support for this great university, its students, its faculty and staff, this community and its residents. Let us not go quietly into the night.

My wife and I will continue our annual scholarship gift to Penn State for as long as we are able.

I will wear my Penn State gear everywhere. I will wear my Class of ’66 ring daily. I will wear my Penn State cuff links and ties. My car’s license plate reads, “GIV2PSU.” It’s staying there.

I will confront anyone who condemns Penn State. And I will do so by using the words of actor John Wayne: “I wouldn’t say that too often if I were you, and once more will be too often.”
