STATE COLLEGE — A status conference has been ordered for The Second Mile’s petition to transfer millions of dollars and other assets to a Texas-based organization as part of its plan to shut down for good.

Senior Judge William Morgan, of Warren and Forest county court, ordered the status conference to be held at 1:30 p.m. Sept. 7 in the Centre County Courthouse Annex.

It’s the first scheduled court date for The Second Mile since it filed papers in May asking for approval to disband the nonprofit and turn its assets and mission over to Houston-based Arrow Child and Family Ministries. 

Morgan, an out-of-county judge, was assigned to the case last month after Centre County Judge Jonathan Grine recused himself because of his connections to the charity. 

All the county’s other judges recused themselves from Jerry Sandusky’s criminal case because of their ties to The Second Mile or to Penn State.

Sandusky, who founded the charity, was convicted in June of sexually abusing 10 young boys and is now awaiting sentencing.
