Grange Fair quiz 2012

Published: August 12, 2012

Joe Hartle owed his very existence to the Grange Fair — his parents met there. He was 19 years old when he was elected to the committee for the Centre County Grange Encampment and Fair.
He was dedicated to the fair for 61 years, serving as president for 25 of those years.
His wife, Gladys, and their children shared his devotion to the great Grange Fair.
Harvey Flink, in his poem, “Granger’s Fair” opines that when the day at the fair is done, “After all is silent, except the cricket’s drone, a happy spirit wonders, about the grounds, alone — The spirit of the founder, the kindly Leonard Rhone.”
We are certain that Master Rhone is now accompanied by Joe Hartle.
This quiz compares the Grange Fair of 1951, the first fair when Hartle began his service on the committee, to the great Grange Fair of 2011, the last fair over which he presided.
Complete the quiz and drop it off at the Emporium during the fair (additional forms will be there or at the CDT tent, if you need them.)
The winner will receive a Grange Fair hoodie and three free passes for Grange Fair 2013.
The runner-up will receive a Grange Fair sweatshirt and two free passes for 2013, and the third-place winner will receive a Grange Fair T-shirt and a free pass for next year’s fair.
