In an Aug. 15 letter, B. Christian Bechdel states, “For some odd reason, drivers do not obey pedestrian laws in State College.”
Actually, the reason for this is not odd at all. The reason is that the State College police do not enforce pedestrian laws, so there are no consequences for drivers who disregard them.
If the State College police issued citations to drivers who fail to yield to pedestrians in crosswalks at marked and unmarked intersections, as the law requires, drivers would obey. For some odd reason, the State College police not enforce pedestrian laws.
When will Chief (Tom) King order our police officers to rigorously enforce this state law?
Hopefully soon, before more pedestrians in State College are injured or killed.
