PHILIPSBURG — A Philipsburg man who police said kicked in the front door of a home to get his three children late Saturday night has been arrested on a burglary charge.
Mark Peffer, 40, was thwarted from getting the children after a man at the North Ninth Street residence kicked him down a flight of stairs, according to the charging documents.
He then went onto the porch, where a female resident tried to calm him down and get him to leave, police said. But police said he shoved her away and she hit her head on the porch.
Peffer told the man and a woman at the residence that someone would die, according to police.
Peffer left after the assault on the porch, but he returned as police were interviewing witnesses.
Police said Peffer, who reportedly smelled of alcohol, was arrested without a problem.
But police said Peffer was reluctant to say anything about what happened. He told them he went to get his children and take them away because he didn’t want them around negative influences at that home.
Peffer was arraigned Sunday morning and jailed in the Centre County Correctional Facility on $50,000 bail.
Peffer is charged with felony burglary and trespassing and misdemeanor counts of making terroristic threats. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing next week.
