Local leaders creating ‘welcome back’ banners in anticipation of Penn State students' return

Published: August 22, 2012

State College borough staff and Downtown Improvement District leaders are working on creating “welcome back” banners to place around town ahead of Penn State students’ return this weekend.

Borough Manager Tom Fountaine reported Monday, during a Borough Council meeting, that merchants and other leaders have continued to meet on the issue of addressing the sanctions and fallout from the Jerry Sandusky child sex abuse case.

He said the Chamber of Business and Industry of Centre County is leading the group, which started as two groups, and said regular meetings have taken place in a “broad-based community effort.”
