UNIVERSITY PARK The Penn State field hockey team got the start to the season it was looking for, knocking off No. 3 Old Dominion 5-2 Friday evening at the Field Hockey Complex.
Kelsey Amy scored a pair of goals, including the winner, as the No. 9 Nittany Lions scored three second-half tallies.
“Our team did a great job of getting the lead, holding onto the lead and weathering the storm even when they tied us up at 2-2,” said Penn State coach Char Morett, whose team faces Virginia on Sunday. “We had a good game plan for our players to play team defense, and we were able to counter attack.”
Casey Haegele and Brittany Grzywacz later scored, while Lauren Purvisfound the net in the first half.
Christy Longacre and Sarah Breen scored for the Monarchs.
Laura Gebhart assisted on two Penn State goals and Whitney Reddig added one assist Keeper Ayla Halus posted five saves.
