Big Ten honors Penn State’s Katie Slay

Published: August 28, 2012

— Penn State’s Katie Slay was named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week for her performance in three opening-weekend wins at the Active Ankle Challenge in Louisville.

In 3-0 wins over Morehead State, Western Kentucky and Louisville, Slay totaled 25 kills — second-best on the team — on .500 hitting while posting a team-best 16 kills. Included in that performance was a night of eight kills on an error-free nine swings to hit .889, adding six blocks, in a sweep of the host Cardinals.

Penn State hosts the Nike Big Four Classic this weekend, with Florida facing Texas and Stanford meeting the Nittany Lions on Friday, and the Gators and Cardinal meeting Saturday before the Lions host the Longhorns.
