A 19-year-old Penn State student is facing felony charges after he allegedly assaulted another student early Thursday at a downtown apartment building.

State College police charged John Targonski with attacking a man in the hallway and forcing his way into the man’s room to continue the assault, according to a criminal complaint.

Targonski was charged with felony counts of burglary and criminal trespass, and misdemeanor counts of simple assault, and possessing or consuming alcohol as a minor.

The man who was attacked told police he was returning to his apartment at about 12:53 a.m. Thursday when he saw trash stacked in front of his door and noticed a loud party across the hallway.

When the man tossed the trash across the hall he was confronted by several residents, including Targonski.

Targonski allegedly attacked the man in the hallway and followed him into his room when he fled, continuing to throw punches, police said.
