Letter to the editor | Beyond football

Published: September 1, 2012

Pivotal change can be good, but it should not come at the expense of student-athletes.

Our university needs to include — and applaud — the accomplishments of academics and athletics, which are the foundation of our student body.

Along with football, we also have national champions in women’s rugby (seven), women’s volleyball and wrestling.

Our student-athletes are ranked tops in the country and, most recently, had a record 19 athletes represented at the Olympics.

Where is the national media coverage? We need to be as vocal as possible regarding all aspects of the university to effect change in the way the rest of the world views us.
