The Council for Hope and Healing will hold an event Monday to start a vigil for the anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.
The event, called Painting for Change: Coming Together to Kickoff the 9/11 Vigil, will begin at 12:15 p.m. Monday at artist Michael Pilatos Inspiration mural on Hiester Street in downtown State College.
Speakers including Mayor Elizabeth Goreham and Penn State board of trustees member Ryan McCombie, who will talk about the value of art in healing, and McCombie will tell the story of his sons death. Lt. j.g. Thomas Brandan McCombie died in the line of duty as a Navy SEAL.
CHH was formed following the Jerry Sandusky child sex abuse case, and members work to promote principles that will guide individuals and communities to make the protection of children their first priority.
