Alcohol a factor in Unionville crash, police say

Published: September 6, 2012

— Two people were taken to hospitals with moderate injuries after a two-car collision Wednesday in Unionville, state police at Philipsburg reported.

Shara J. Goyne, 29, of Bellefonte, was flown by helicopter to Altoona Regional Hospital. Karen L. Jacobs, 40, of Unionville, was taken to Mount Nittany Medical Center by ambulance.

The crash occurred at about 4:30 p.m. at the intersection of Main and Union streets.

Police said Goyne was driving her 2000 Chevrolet Cavalier west on Main Street when she failed to stop at a stop sign and entered the intersection, where her vehicle was struck by Jacobs’ 2006 Ford Escape.

Both vehicles sustained extensive damage. Police said alcohol was a factor in the crash but provided no further details.

State police were assisted at the scene by the Milesburg Fire Department and Bellefonte EMS. The investigation is ongoing.
