UNIVERSITY PARK — The Penn State wrestling team picked up its second recruit of the 2013 class and it's a good one.
Benton’s Zain Retherford recently notified Penn State coach Cael Sanderson that he intends to join the two-time defending national champion Nittany Lions.
Retherford, who won a PIAA championship as a freshman, is preparing to wrestle his final high school season for Benton after he was forced to sit out his junior season following a transfer from Line Mountain. He’s coming off a blistering summer which saw him win the NHSCA Junior Nationals in April, FILA Cadet Nationals in June, Junior Nationals in July and FILA Cadet World Championships in August.
Projecting as a 141-pounder in college, Retherford is 83-3 in high school action. He is the second recruit to notify Penn State of his intentions to enroll after Kiski Prep’s Matt McCutcheon orally committed to the Nittany Lions in July. Retherford was also being recruited by Lehigh, Iowa and Oklahoma State.
