Letter to the editor | Americans deserve better

Published: September 7, 2012

When he was asked about the economy recently, President Barack Obama awarded himself a grade of incomplete. But that is a non-answer, and a misleading one.

The problem with Obama isn’t that he hasn’t done anything, but that what he’s done hasn’t worked. As $5 trillion added to the national debt would suggest, the president has accomplished plenty of things in office. They just haven’t made my generation better off, let alone been fiscally responsible.

He passed the almost $1 trillion stimulus (which didn’t create jobs) and a massive government overhaul of health care (which didn’t control costs).

Many of my classmates are graduating college only to face record levels of student loan debt and limited, if any, job prospects. Many have had no choice but to move back home with their parents.

This isn’t how things were supposed to turn out. This isn’t what Obama promised.

The American people deserve a president who will level with them. Obama won’t even do that. In the first two years of his presidency, his own party controlled both houses of Congress. It’s time for real leadership in the White House, and that’s exactly what Mitt Romney would deliver.
