Campus corner: Former Little Lion earns scholar honor

The season has barely started and already the honors are piling up in Colby Way’s locker.

The Buffalo defensive end has been named the Mid-American Scholar Athlete of the Week only days after being named the MAC’s East Division Defensive Player of the Week for his effort in the opening game against Georgia.

Way, a member of the 2009 Little Lion team that was a PIAA Class AAAA runner-up, had six tackles (four solo) and two sacks against the Bulldogs.

To earn Scholar Athlete of the Week honors, an athlete must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher and perform well during that week’s competition. Way carries a 3.4 GPA in Computer Science.

For the season, he has seven tackles (four solo), three sacks and four tackles for loss. Buffalo is 1-1.

Football

Shane Dorner (State College, Lafayette) has two solo tackles and one assist, one sack and one tackle for loss. Lafayette is 1-0.

Coleman Rigg, (Bellefonte, Juniata) has two receptions for 30 yards.

Colton Myers (State College, Juniata) has one reception for 49 yards. Juniata is 1-1.

Michael John (Philipsburg-Osceola, Juniata) has two carries for one yard and has returned six kicks for 111 yards..

Shay Ceglar (State College, Shippensburg) has one assisted tackle in two games. Ship is 2-0.

Kurt Walker (P-O, Shippensburg) has played in two games but has no stats.

Logan Belinda (State College, Westminster) saw action but recorded no stats is Westminster’s opening 28-0 win over Hiram.

Ian Smith (State College, Kutztown) has four solo tackles and one assist. Kutztown is 11.

Bernard Smack (State College, Lock Haven) transferred from Shippensburg and has one catch for 11 yards. Lock Haven is 0-2.

Zach Czap (P-O, Lycoming) has three extra points and a field goal. Lycoming is 1-1.

Sam Rodgers (State College, Syracuse) is the starting long snapper for the Orangemen (0-2).

Mike Horton (P-O, Edinboro) started at offensive guard in Edinboro’s loss to Bloomsburg Saturday.
Soccer

Andy Blunk (State College, Juniata) has played in four games and has two assists.

Anthony Glossner (Penns Valley, Juniata) has played in four games and has an assist. Juniata is 3-1.

Sydney Masters (Bellefonte, Juniata) has played in four games and taken six shots. Juniata is 4-0.

Devyn Lee (State College, Case Western) has taken one shot in four games. Case Western is
2-1-1.

Ally Reid (State College, Franklin & Marshall) has played in two games. F&M is 0-1-1.

David Trunzo (State College, St. Francis) has taken nine shots in five games. St. Francis is 2-1-2.

Katelyn Gill (State College, Alvernia) has no stats to date.

Kelsey Gill (State College, Alvernia) has scored one goal.

Izabel Scott (State College, Slippery Rock) has played in one game and has nine shots. Slippery Rock is 3-0.

Megan Porter (State College, Geneva) has taken three shots to date.

Katie Deardorff (Penns Valley, Lebanon Valley) has taken one shot. Lebanon Valley is 2-2.

Kathryn Ritter (P-O, Lancaster Bible College) has one goal and two assists. Lancaster Bible is 2-2.

Kathleen Warner (State College, Clarion) has taken one shot to date.

Liz Ventura (Penns Valley, Clarion) has taken two shots. Clarion is 1-0-1.

Volleyball

Lauren Hester (State College, Indiana, Pa.) has 29 kills, nine aces, two assists, one block and 19 digs. IUP is 3-1.

Elizabeth Horner (State College, Penn) has five kills, four assists, three aces, 40 digs and three blocks. Penn is 3-3.

Kayla Confer (Bald Eagle Area, Lebanon Valley) has 72 kills, two aces, 15 digs and three blocks. Lebanon Valley is 6-3.

Julia Elkin (State College, Muhlenberg) has one kill, two assists, 35 digs and nine aces. Muhlenberg is
6-3.

Alaina Del Real (State College, American U.) has played in two games but has no stats.

Bella Stokowski (State College, Kenyon) has two kills, 14 assists, seven aces and 88 digs.

Alexandra Fleagle (State College, Slippery Rock) has two kills, 56 assists and 28 digs. Slippery Rock is 1-3.

Field hockey

Mikaela Sloan (State College, Juniata) has played in four games and taken six shots. Juniata is
3-1.

Tia Dudukovich (State College, St. Francis) has one goal and five assists.  St. Francis is 3-3.

Tori Patrick (State College, Washington & Jefferson) has two goals to date. W&J is 4-0

Brenna Boehman (State College, Haverford) has played in two games and taken four shots. Haverford is 2-0.

Cross Country

Matt Brooker (Penns Valley, Cedarville) placed second in the 5K Queen City Invitational in 15:42.
