As debates continue to swirl around the Jerry Sandusky scandal and its fallout, the Penn State Alumni Association is turning to two sociology instructors to lead a conversation about leadership, responsibility and making decisions.
Sam Richards and Laurie Mulvey will be talking and answering questions at livestream.com/pennstater, where Penn Staters and anyone following can chime in with their own thoughts. The idea for Emerging from the Storm follows a class discussion about the topic and an article about it in the Penn Stater magazine.
Richards and Laurie, who are married, teach Race and Ethnic Relations and used a class to talk about the Sandusky scandal in November as it was unfolding. Lori Shontz, senior editor at the Penn Stater who wrote a story about it, said she thought they raised a lot of good questions in their class.
Thats what theyre so good at bringing in different perspectives and helping you understand different points of view, Shontz said.
Mulvey said there is no formula for dealing with whats happened.
I think its important to try to create spaces where we can have conversations about some of the deeper things underlying the conflicts, she said.
